Hands-on training for geoscientists and engineers
Whistler Research has been conducting training courses for geoscience and reservoir professionals since 1998. We provide a turn-key solution for training needs in sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, reservoir characterisation and reservoir modeling. Itineraries can be customised to suit specific competency targets.
Our lists of clients includes ExxonMobil, Chevron, BHP-Petroleum, Woodside, Santos, Origin Energy and others.
Field based training courses actively involve all participants in excercises and demonstrations in a friendly, team-building setting. Outcrops and modern environments are used illustrate aspects of facies analysis, reservoir characterisation and sequence stratigraphy.
World-class natural and man-made exposures in Queensland, Australia provide excellent opportunities to study outcrop expression of fluvial, deltaic, coastal and coal-bearing depositional settings. Deep-water environments are accessible in laterally extensive exposures in South Australia.
Core library visits are routinely arranged and included in itineraries to compare actual subsurface examples with features observed at outcrop or in modern environments.
Field courses are offered in modules, which can be combined and modified to suit the client’s specific training requirements.
Modules are:
- Module 1a: Modern coastal and marginal marine environments and facies - Moreton Bay
- Module 1b: Modern coastal and marginal marine environments and facies - Great Sandy Straits and Hervey Bay
- Module 2: Ancient shallow marine and deltaic deposits
- Module 3: Sedimentology and stratigraphy of coal-bearing successions
- Module 4: Ancient fluvial and deltaic depositional facies
- Module 5: Sedimentology and reservor characterisation using drill core
- Module 6: Sequence stratigraphy of mixed-influence shallow marine deposits
- Module 7: Class-room training courses
